Nike… Mules?

I know that I’m very late to this trend, however, over the last year I have seen them all over Atlanta. They are so cute – but they did take some time to grow on me, kind of like… Birkenstocks or Crocs took some time to grow onto mainstream society. They, now, solidly have a place in my heart, and wardrobe. For four years in a row, I bought the Birkenstock look-a-likes every summer from Target (as they wear down quickly, I had a hole in the bottom of the shoe ala Obama by the end of the summer, too. )

What do I like about them? They are budget friendly (Nike shoes for 65? Heck yeah). I can easily walk around the city in them as they are so comfortable, the soles are THICK, no worries if I run into areas with broken glass, and the color ways are so nice. Cutting the grass, a breeze. I do have one MAJOR complaint, however, I wear a size 5 – why is black the only color available for people with tiny feet?

I really like the peanut butter cup color way pictured above. Bone is nice. Just an FYI, those are not the correct names for the colorways, but I like them and would like to wear them, however, they are very hard to find in my size, if they even exist.

In short, if you are looking for some cool, comfortable, casual but not tennis shoes to wear on errands or even around the house, I’d definitely pick these up if you had an apprehension.

One more tip, size up if you think the shoe will be tight. I removed the heel band as they seemed to run small, however, the shoes have since loosened so they are no longer a tight fit.

TikTok Spotlight: Amanda Up Next

I have a real love for TikTok. I have found so much on this app to enjoy. This tiktoker is so cool – find her on all social channels with the handle @AmandaUpNext.

I’ve learned a lot about wigs from this lady. She is so stylish and so entertaining. She also started the overnight “evaporated” Got2B gel trend – the one where people are setting the hairspray for a thicker consistency when applying lace wigs – that one. That SUPER viral trend, see her recipe here. The overnight consistency of the spray aids in wig adhesion for up to a week or two. I do not use this method much, myself, as I prefer glueless wigs, however, I do like it for my edges. I personally think that the end consistency of the product is somewhat similar to the SheBOMB lace putty – but easier to work with. Amandaupnext is super dope – she is also how I found out about SZC hair – where I found my beloved.

Even if you’re not into wigs, I think that she is worth checking out for the laughs and styling.

P.S. – I’ll have some BAE updates soon. Stay tuned.

modibodi

Modibodi has a really amazing sale going on right now. I love this brand for period management – not only do these underwear assist with ensuring that bodies are kept healthy despite all of the chemical pollutants in female hygiene, but they are also great for the environment (so much less waste).

This brand has the best supers of all the other brands I’ve tried.

Nelliel Approved.

At Home Beautification – Devices (Electronic & Manual)

Over the last few years, I have tried many new things, hoping to find new ways of living and taking care of myself as I age – ways that resonate with me at heart. I have been a part of a spa membership service, KSPAS really have been a great escape, and I have since ventured into the land of at home electronic beautification devices.

In my younger years, I was a bit averse to these devices as they seemed to be linked with increase risk of cancer, however, I do believe that the FDA has worked to ensure that the public is more aware and knowledgeable as to what is advised/approved for use and what is not.

Here is a pretty exhaustive list of the devices I use at home. My focus is primarily on maintaining my youthfulness, I do not have many signs of aging nor acne – this could also be due to using the direct acids (Glycolic & Lactic) by The Ordinary, and oil cleansing with hemp seed oil.

Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare DRX Spectralite Faceware Pro

At a $455 price point, I would not recommend this for those that are just dipping their toes into this world, but I do believe that it is a worthwhile purchase. I used my HSA to purchase this – it falls under acne prevention. I used this everyday for a long while, however, I have since moved to using this device 2-3x a week. I generally use the Red Light and the Combo Acne and Red Light modes – I believe that this has greatly assisted with maintaining matte skin. I really used to be an oil slick – I have the Pewter Color of this model and I have not been disappointed with this color choice at all. This can also be used on the head to aid in the health hair growth.

I have also used this on my chest to keep the decolletage area (neck, chest, etc) skin youthful.

Price $455.00

Ulike Air10

I am so happy with this device. I used to go into the spa every month for laser hair removal, however, device has made hair removal easy, less painful, and inexpensive. I have PCOS and the very coarse body hairs that come with this illness do not stand a chance anymore. My legs are hairless after all the spa visits, even my Type A sister has noticed. Again, I used my HSA to purchase this beautiful little device (with doctor’s approval) and it comes in with a discount at $350.

Price $350.00

High Frequency Electrotherapy Wand

I found this at my local Marshalls for less than 30 dollars. What a steal – this also has red light therapy benefits and can often be found for a steal. The ones I own are by Luxe + Willow. The sticker on my box states that the price for it was $24.99.

Price: Less than $50.00

Silicone Facial Cleansing & Massaging Scrubber

I believe that this device has really assisted with manually cleaning my face. I do not use cleansers that frequently, however, I do think that this in addition to using oil has been a true benefit. My skin has been very clear with the aid of the products I use and my electronic devices.

Wood Therapy Kit

When I was new to the KSPA life, I used to get body scrubs every month. They are not only beneficial to maintaining beautiful skin, but they are also very helpful for lymphatic drainage. I highly recommend them, but if you are on a budget, check out the wood therapy skin tools. Using these tools a few minutes a day will greatly assist in keeping your Lymph active and moving. Dry brushing is also a good idea. Prices on these tools vary, but I’ve gotten some as low as $5.00 and others as high as $30.00. I recommend getting a wood therapy set from Etsy as they are more encompassing. The sets are generally less than $100.00.

Luxury Items Wish List

Trying to keep myself uplifted, so, I’m gonna dream.

Here are some items I’m dreaming of and a full bank account.

Chanel: Mini Classic Handbag

I have not seen this in person, but I think it would be a great addition to my capsule wardrobe. If the leather is like it looks here, I’m sure it can really withstand years of use. I’m sure it is really beautiful – lambskin.

Price: $5,400

Louis Vuitton Pochette

I have seen this purse in person numerous times – the design is timeless, especially with the monogram. I love it and hope to add it to my capsule in the near future. I just read about the details of the bag on the website and it is canvas.

I doubt most people know that. Looks like leather.

Price: $1660.00

Michael Kors: Bromley Over the Knee Boots

I’ve had a few pair of these and I really enjoy them, however, I would prefer that they were still full leather. I lived in these during the Fall and Winter months, however, if they continue to fall apart after a few wears, I will stick with my second hand Frye Boots, for sure (I may need to do a whole post on my Frye Boot collection). I really like the design of these boots, they are very simple and greatly enhance my Capsule Wardrobe, but come on, Michael of Michael Kors. Come on.

Plastic upper?

Price: $Varies

($250 when initially released)

Prius Plug In Hybrid

I am more of a Honda fan, but they keep discontinuing the cars that I like, so I’m moving on to Toyota. I love the new Prius design, but that price tag? It needs to be fully electric in my opinion. If I were rich, I’d buy this car and convert it. This would be an upgraded version of the CRZ for me.

Price: $47,000

Nintendo Switch 2 Review: Featuring Indie Game – “Europa”

I bought a Nintendo Switch 2 a few months back – and to be pointed, I really enjoy the system. Warning: I am a Nintendo Freak – and by that, I mean, I do not play many other platforms. In my youth, I used to game pretty hard on PC, SEGA, & Nintendo platforms, but as I’ve grown into a woman, I only play Nintendo. I most recently got back into gaming, honestly, due to curiosity of how the games have evolved (not much) and I’d like to mention Lupe Fiasco, so due to this song.

A quick rundown of the Switch 2 – it does not vary enough from the initial release of the initial system, which I now call, the Switch 1. Honestly, I think that the gaming companies should only move their players to new systems when they have made significant changes. As this is primarily a handheld system, I’m also mildly upset that it is so big. I’ve adapted, but I do prefer the size of the Switch 1. Also, I’ve noticed that I might be a little too insular – I’m not taking advantage of the cool online gaming features. I do not have great Internet in my area (WTF Google, no fiber for the Southside of Atlanta, almost 16 years in now), so I’m not doing much online gaming. I do research, however. I’ve spent the last month playing Pokopia and I’m exhausted. Pokopia is amazing, but I doubt that I will be able to take advantage of how cool the game is without a Nintendo Online Membership and some online gameplay to visit the cool isles in the imaginations of others. I’ll do a more in depth review of Pokopia another time – right now, I want to write about a lesser known game, Europa. This game, now sold in the online Nintendo store, was developed, at least in part by NovaDust Entertainment.

Someone mentioned this game on Threads (@prabhjotlamba via Gaming Threads) and I immediately wanted to experience it for myself. After a few days of contemplation, I decided to download it. It is immediately breathtaking visually, with its Ghibli inspired styling – I do not believe there are very many games which look like this on the market. Not only that, it currently has a 15.00 price tag. Whoa! I immediately enjoyed Europa upon first gameplay, however, I do not believe that the game is complete.

I was engrossed in the world of Europa, but I lost interest quickly. The visuals bleed into each other too much, the camera angels are odd at times when gliding and landing, and maneuvering through some of the needed movements for the character can be difficult on the Switch 2 controllers when using handheld play. I also had a lot of confusion after entering into the main part of the game – how do I make progress from the ruined temples? I believe that the free roam doesn’t give enough guidance to move beyond this point. I also think that the soft focus is very difficult to play with.

The game itself is very cute. Lovely, even. I can see the differences between the main development teams at Nintendo, or whomever they may outsource to, and the team behind Europa. I do believe that it is still worth playing, but with realistic expectations.

Bala Gear MUST HAVES

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE My BALA GEAR.

I do not think that my workouts would be anywhere near as good without my collection.

Here are a few pieces that I recommend – you might be able to find these at Marshalls for a steal, or you can order them directly from their website. By the way, their customer service is so good and the folks are so nice. I think that they are also open to suggestions – a year ago, I asked about the weight of their bands, and they could not give me a clear answer. NOW THEY HAVE BANDS WITH ACTUAL WEIGHT (light, medium, and heavy – they are definitely stronger than their prior set – I had the booty bands and they popped.)

Their development team and leadership teams seem to be really awesome. Have any ideas you think they would benefit from (WHOA THOSE KETTLEBALLS) – maybe suggest them. I would love to see a BALA inspired reformer similar to the ones sold on LHANEL.

My current workout faves are below. Thanks for requesting this as a blog post:

Bala Bangles have supercharged my workouts, my walks, and I love how stylish they are. When these were first introduced, they made HUGE waves in the yoga and light weight lifters communities for their style.

Just so you know, I’m a fan of their charcoal and sand color ways.

The Power Ring is such a nice weight to have. I believe that they used to sell this in smaller and bigger sizes, but I have the 10 pound weight.

Bala Mats – These mats are so helpful for floor workouts or for cushioning the floor better. I love my Wavy Mat, but I do not feel as though I use it as much as I should. I have rugs covering the floors of my rooms (I live in a very old home so I use them to ensure that my floors are insulated well). However, their newer release, the Compact Mat, will be getting much use as I think it would be very beneficial to assist with elevation.

Bala Beams – I have the 15lb and the 35lb beams. Need I say more? I ditched the gym as it was cutting into my day too much. I don’t need any of those machines.

To buy:

I want the KettleBall Trio (possibly in Sand). I have a very heavy, very ugly one from Walmart that I purchased during COVID and I think that these would be a lovely replacement. I’ll probably give that one to my brother. I love that Bala has infused so much style into their weights, they are like eye candy.

Somehow my Bala Ball got marks on it that won’t disappear even after using the pink stuff. Shock and dismay. Anywho, I need another one of these – in charcoal this time. I also want a weighted ball – The Power Ball.

I made a wig!

I made a wig by hand. Thanks for all the help, A.

For the curious, the black square is my radiant heating. I need to get it set up correctly so that the wiring is hidden. It kind of looks kind of like a TV but it isn’t – I should have just gotten a white one.

Just so you all know, I have no interest in doing this as a professional.

Bundles used: SexyLadyHair – Straight, 24 IN 13×6 closure, this hair is SO Beautiful and SO THICK. I got double drawn bundles.

Styling Tool: Dyson Co-anda 2x

Wig Caps: Small Ventilated Wig Cap – Size down as I need an XS.

Nylon Thread & Needle

Bleach for frontal was used

A more serious image – just imagine this one someone’s head.

In total, took about 5 hours to make but that is with lots of breaks. It is lovely, I’m proud and I’ve been perming hair but had to wait until the perm rods arrived for the curly hair to be upgraded. Now that I am in receipt of them, I’m happy I bought them on TEMU instead of the pack on AMAZON as I’m afraid that those are short and fat instead of “New Curl” like I need.

Anywho. I forgot rubber bands. 🙁

Back to my data science program.

Midweek Update

  • Pokemon Pokopia is the ish. NOT better than Legends Arceus, but very interesting and cool. I really like the Switch2, however, I still believe that they should have held off on release. Starting to feel like I can’t wait for Wind + Waves. I’m so thankful for my guide – so helpful with understanding what is going on in the game. I did purchase ZA and my Totodile did become a Pharrelagator (Feraligatr), but I chose not to continue to play, at least right now. I’m not big into battles and after a year of playing the Arcues game, I just had to call it. I needed a BIG BREAK from that format.
  • I permed hair for the first time on Monday. UGH. It is so pretty! I will definitely have to do another round, but I do think that this is the right path to get the kind of curls I was hoping for.
  • Baked Chicken DOES NOT TRUMP OVEN FRIED CHICKEN. DOES NOT.
  • Sauteed Arugala is the move, but not so much the move that I won’t still eat it raw.
  • Change is hard.
  • I started the Data Science program again and I do not feel as though I am soaking very much in, but I definitely know more now than I did before.

Til Next Time.

We will chat soon.
